Try
<xsl:template match="node()">
  <xsl:copy>
        <xsl:copy-of select="@*"/>
    <xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/>
  </xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

in stead of
<xsl:template match="node()">
  <xsl:copy>
    <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
  </xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
