node() isn't a function, it is a node test, like text(). attribute nodes
are matched by node() but
select="node()" is short for
select="child::node()"
and attribute nodes are not child nodes of any node.

no node() does match attribute nodes.

attribute nodes do not have any children. The value of an attribute i
not a text node.
