XQuery Use Growing: DevX Poll

Bedford, MAMay  9, 2005 Stylus Studio (http://www.stylusstudio.com), the leading provider of XML tools for advanced data integration, today announced the results of a DevX online poll which shows that a majority of software developers currently use or plan to use XQuery technologies. According to the non-scientific poll of 302 software developers, 43% said that "We implemented XQuery and it's incredibly useful"; another 16% said that "we'll be using [XQuery] soon, too". DevX is the premier online technical information source for application development professionals.

"A recent DevX online poll suggests a substantial and growing interest in XQuery technologies among the DevX readership of software and IT professionals, even though the XQuery specification itself is still in development," said Dr. A. Russell Jones, Executive Editor at DevX.com, a Jupitermedia company. "It's also significant because our readers aren't exclusively XML developers, but rather come from such diverse technological backgrounds."

NASA Blasts Off with XQuery

While surveys and industry studies provide insight into the viability and adoption rate of a particular technology, what really matters is the actual experiences of real-world customers and their feedback. Recently, DynCorp, the contractor for NASA's Johnson Space Center Aircraft Operations Division in Houston, Texas turned to XQuery to help simplify their XML data integration project. Here's what Mike Ritchson, a Systems Integrator working on the project team, had to say about his experiences using XQuery: "It's rare in this business that you come across a software technology that is more powerful, easier to use, faster, actually lets us increase application requirements, and not to mention, is free to use — but in truth, that was our experience with XQuery and we were thrilled with the results."

Mr. Ritchson continued: "XQuery has really opened the door to how an application can be designed, developed and deployed. In the past, we were dreading having to write our own specific methods to query all the stored XML documents. But with the implementation of the XQuery API technology, our main focus has been on the specific business rules that are required by our organization. To me, the bottom line for choosing XQuery was satisfaction — to make our managers happy and also our customer, NASA." Read more about how DynCorp used XQuery in their project on behalf of NASA.
