Stylus Studio XML IDE Used to Showcase Advanced XQuery and SQL/XML Concepts and Technologies at JavaOne 2004

Bedford, Mass.June 29, 2004 — Stylus Studio (http://www.stylusstudio.com), the world's leading XML IDE was featured today in a technical session and breakfast chaired by XML expert Jonathan Robie. The session discussed SQL/XML, XQJ, XQuery, and data integration scenarios for XML queries. Stylus Studio was used to demonstrate how these technologies work using DataDirect XQuery and Connect for SQL/XML to perform XML queries on relational sources.

Mr. Robie is co-author of the W3C XQuery specification and the XML Program Manager for DataDirect Technologies. His informational technical session featured the recently released Stylus Studio Release 5.3, the award-winning XML IDE known for its quality and innovation by hundreds of thousands of developers worldwide.

"Stylus Studio makes it very easy to understand XML queries, since it lets me visualize the data sources, helps me write the queries, and allows me to see the data sources, the query, and the output at the same time. I first used Stylus for an XQuery tutorial at XML Europe 2004, and I am very happy with Stylus Studio and with the Stylus Studio XQuery implementation," said Jonathan Robie, XML Program Manager for DataDirect Technologies.

As XML Program Manager, Mr. Robie defines the vision and leads the development of XML products for DataDirect Technologies, including DataDirect Connect for SQL/XML and the upcoming DataDirect XQuery. Mr. Robie is a co-author of the W3C XQuery and specification, and he has participated in many other W3C Working Groups, including the XML Schema Working Group. He is co-author of a recently published book entitled XQuery from the Experts (Addison Wesley, 2004).

"Emerging XQuery, XQJ, and SQL/XML technologies are changing the way enterprises express and exchange data," said Carlo Innocenti, the senior product architect for Stylus Studio. "Stylus Studio provides crucial XML tools XML tools, including an XQuery editor with integrated debugging, mapping, and performance profiling utilities to enhance developer productivity in building these new classes of data integration applications. Our new XQuery and SQL/XML visual mapping features provide intuitive visual diagrams that are a great help to developers trying to learn and understand these new XML mapping and data integration concepts."
