0. INTRODUCTIONThis specification provides the definition of the Work item quantity determination message (CONWQD) to be used in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) between trading partners involved in administration, commerce and transport. 1. SCOPEThere are occasions during the construction process when it is required to substantiate the quantities associated with specific sections of work. This message will be needed by various parties involved in the project to determine these quantity details. 1.1. Functional definitionTypically this message will be used between a contractor and the client's representative or other partners within the construction process, for justifying the work item quantities given in messages that describe the work items or their progress valuations. 1.2. Field of applicationThe Work item quantity determination message may be used for both national and international applications. It is based on universal practice related to administration, commerce and transport, and is not dependent on the type of business or industry. 1.3. PrinciplesThere are several examples within the construction process where one party is required to justify to another party the quantities per work item he has already given in earlier messages. A project may be subdivided into individual groupings of work, referred to as items and it is against the quantities of these items that a justification has to be given. Within the Construction industry there are numerous rules which govern this part of the process. Although efforts have been made to keep the design of the message generic, other potential users of this message are cautioned about the specific and original role for which it has been designed. This is only one of a number of messages being designed for the construction industry. This particular message refers to already described items of work or their progress valuation in earlier sent construction messages. This message is for verifiable and provable quantities per work item which include individual calculations with sub- and intermediate totals. The message contains the quantities and how they are assessed for each of the work items. For every work item the quantity per unit must be determined (except those with a flat rate, which are paid according to payment schedules). The unit of quantity is defined by common technical rules. Rules describe the way in which quantities are calculated. These use standard formulae. 2. REFERENCESSee UNTDID, Part 4, Chapter 2.3 UN/ECE UNSM - General Introduction, Section 1. 3. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS3.1. Standard terms and definitionsSee UNTDID, Part 4, Chapter 2.3 UN/ECE UNSM - General Introduction, Section 2. 4. MESSAGE DEFINITION4.1. Segment clarificationThis section should be read in conjunction with the segment table which indicates mandatory, conditional and repeating requirements. 0010 UNH, Message headerA service segment starting and uniquely identifying a message. The message type code for the Work item quantity determination message is CONWQD. Note: Work item quantity determination messages conforming to this document must contain the following data in segment UNH, composite S009:
0020 BGM, Beginning of messageA segment for unique identification of the Work Item Quantity Determination document name, number and function. 0030 DTM, Date/time/periodA segment specifying the dates that apply, e.g. date of valuation, date of submission, acceptance date, etc. 0040 AUT, Authentication resultA segment used to authenticate the message by exchanging a password or some other form of identification agreed between the trading partners. 0050 FTX, Free textA segment with free text information, in coded or clear form, used for any textual qualification. In computer to computer exchanges, such text will require the receiver to process this segment manually. 0060 Segment Group 1: RFF-DTMA group of segments for quoting references and their relevant dates that are applicable to the message. 0070 RFF, ReferenceA segment for quoting references that are applicable to this message. e.g. contract identity, operational references, determination reference number of a former message. 0080 DTM, Date/time/periodDate of references quoted in the previous RFF segment. 0090 Segment Group 2: NAD-LOC-FII-SG3-SG4-SG5A group of segments identifying the parties with associated information. 0100 NAD, Name and addressA segment identifying names and addresses of the parties, in coded or clear form, and their functions relevant to the Work Item Quantity Determination Message. Identification of the contractor and client parties is mandatory for the Work Item Quantity Determination Message. It is recommended that where possible only the coded form of the party ID should be specified. 0110 LOC, Place/location identificationA segment giving more specific location information of the party specified in the NAD segment e.g. internal site/building number. 0120 FII, Financial institution informationA segment identifying the financial institution (e.g. bank) and relevant account numbers for the contractor, client and where necessary other parties. 0130 Segment Group 3: RFF-DTMA group of segments giving references only relevant to the specified party rather than the whole message. 0140 RFF, ReferenceA segment identifying the reference by its number and where appropriate a line number within a document. 0150 DTM, Date/time/periodA segment specifying the date and/or time related to the reference. 0160 Segment Group 4: DOC-DTMA group of segments identifying the documentary requirements of the specified party. 0170 DOC, Document/message detailsA segment identifying and providing information relating to the documents required by the party specified by the NAD. 0180 DTM, Date/time/periodA segment specifying the date and/or time of the document. 0190 Segment Group 5: CTA-COMA group of segments giving contact details of the specific person or department within the party identified in the NAD segment. 0200 CTA, Contact informationA segment to identify a person or department, and associated function, to whom communications should be directed. 0210 COM, Communication contactA segment to identify a communication type and number for the contact specified in the CTA segment. 0220 Segment Group 6: BII-QTY-SG7-SG8A group of segments providing the quantity determination for each work item. A quantity determination can consist of several "calculation lines". 0230 BII, Structure identificationA segment to identify the item of work to which this quantity determination applies. 0240 QTY, QuantityA segment giving control totals for this work item. 0250 Segment Group 7: RFF-FTX-DTMA segment group enabling a reference for the work item. 0260 RFF, ReferenceA segment giving a reference for the work item within the whole project. 0270 FTX, Free textA segment giving a narrative description of the reference. 0280 DTM, Date/time/periodA segment giving a date when the reference in this segment group was related to project documentation. 0290 Segment Group 8: LIN-GIS-FTX-SG9A segment group giving the calculation lines and their values for the work item identified in the BII segment. 0300 LIN, Line itemA segment identifying a calculation line within a work item. 0310 X GIS, General indicatorA segment indicating how this calculation must be interpreted. 0320 FTX, Free textA narrative description concerning the whole work item or only the calculation given in segment group 9. 0330 Segment Group 9: QTY-GIS-RFF-FTXA segment group giving the details of the calculation lines. 0340 QTY, QuantityA segment giving the values and factor of this calculation line. 0350 X GIS, General indicatorA segment indicating, when necessary, mathematical signs for the values given in the QTY segment. 0360 RFF, ReferenceA segment giving either: - the reference of an existing calculation line for this work item, identified in the BII segment, when its result is used in the current calculation line, or - when a standard formula is used, its reference number. 0370 FTX, Free textWhere a calculation line is not based upon a standard formula, the free and unstructured calculation and its values can be given in this segment. 0380 UNT, Message trailerA service segment ending a message, giving the total number of segments in the message (including the UNH & UNT) and the control reference number of the message. 4.2.
