This has been a pain for me too especially when using XSL to generate
to a runtime dynamic page:

I ended up generating things like:

<input class="radio" type="radio" id="previoustrue" value="true"
title="previous${focusObject.previous eq true ?'&#34;
checked=&#34;checked' : ''}" name="previous${readOnly ?'&#34;
disabled=&#34;disabled':''}"/>
