Many of those "legends" came in previous versions of MSFT products, too.
For example the "repository" built-in to VB5, the Rational plugins in
VS6, and so on.  People have been *promising* a sea change for a long
time.  Also note that BEA WebLogic Workshop is very promising too -- it
makes some impressive demos of drag-drop connection of web services.
