What's wrong with document (vs. infoset)? I checked XML 1.0 again just to be
sure, and sure enough that data object you're looking for a name for is
called an "XML document".

People whose different set of understandings lead them to define "document"
as something other than well-formed text perhaps deserve to be confused.
