It is a major XML format in the financial/accounting worlds, and is probably the most significant use of XLink to date. There is a lot of money behind XBRL and the projects currently being handled using XBRL, which is money supporting the development of XLink-savvy tools. That said, it seems that most current XBRL tools are using private XLink implementations, except for the demonstration tools produced by Fujitsu, which use Fujitsu's well-known XLink engine.
