Which XSLT engines have this problem? Not Saxon, which is one of many reasons I use it most of the time. MSXML3 and 4, at least as invoked in XML Cooktop, does have this problem. msxsl.exe, which is a thin wrapper for msxml that Microsoft used to distribute (I do not know if it still does), does not have the problem. You could say that this problem reflects a poor choice of default settings, but that does not help a random user, as Tony said. Cheers, Tom P
