Perhaps and time will tell. But locally, I see XDR, not XSD and never UML. But that is local. My guess is that experiences will vary a lot by locale. People build these and believe they are building a standard when in most cases, they are just modeling their local system ambitiously. Given tools and a need to exchange artifacts with known partners, a serialization of the local system is just fine. Global exchange with blind partners is risky. XML Schema won't supplant the UML any time soon. I suspect OO people who need this sort of thing will move to the OMG's Model Driven Architecture (http://www.omg.org/mda/) and XML Schema will settle at the level of a serialization syntax.
