Correct. But I though it was the easiest way to demonstrate it (Saxon
behaves similarily, I tested that before).

Yet, it seems you are right and my example was wrong. I'm surprised, because
this seems to be a very special case (normally, it doesn't matter *how* you
get a character into your XML).
