Although ID is widely used, Id is also, and I personally find Id acceptable. I think that the etymology of "ID" is the first 2 letters of "identification", which makes it an ordinary abbreviation, not an acronym such as URL, HTML, etc. Or is there some reason to believe it comes from e.g. "Identity Document"?
