CGA  is indeed doing a fine job;  however,  I would suggest that  for XML
to benefit from contributions by more mainstream computer scientists,
within and outside academia, it would be beneficial to have the IEEE, ACM,
or USENIX  arrange conferences as well.   Such  involvement would
undoubtedly
be helpful in establishing XML as a valid academic subject.  Note, btw, that
currently DIMACS  is arranging an academic workshop on Web technologies, and
XML
is the subject of some of the talks.
