XML Schema Editor Text Tab

To display the XML Schema editor, open an XML Schema document, or select File > New > XML Schema from the Stylus Studio menu bar.

Use the XML Schema editor to define or update an XML Schema. You can edit either the text of an XML Schema or a DOM tree that represents the schema. Any changes you make in one view are automatically reflected in the other view.

The recommended method is to use the DOM tree. In the Tree view, Stylus Studio allows you to add particular nodes to the schema with the click of a button. Click the Tree tab to view a DOM tree representation of your schema.

The Text tab displays the XML markup that defines the XML Schema. You can edit this document as you would any other XML document. As soon as you type a left angle bracket ( <), Stylus Studio prompts you with a list of the possible tag names. If you continue to type, Stylus Studio highlights the first selection that matches what you enter. Double-click a selection in the shortcut menu to insert it in your schema.

After you enter the tag name and insert a space, Stylus Studio prompts you with the attributes that can appear at that point. Double-click an attribute and Stylus Studio automatically inserts it.

Buttons

Indent XML Tags inserts tabs throughout the XML document if the document is well-formed XML. If it is not well formed, clicking this button does nothing.

Validate Document determines whether your schema document is valid XML. If it is not, Stylus Studio displays a message that indicates the location and cause of each error.

Change Font changes the font of the text display in Stylus Studio. This change affects only the Stylus Studio display. Beyond personal preference, this is useful for localization. The fonts that are available are the fonts that can display the characters in your XML file.

Open Schema opens the schema, if there is one, for the XML Schema document.
