Subject: Balisage 2026: It's a Wrap!

This year will be the last Balisage conference.
It's been a good run; please help us wrap it with a bang!

Over the years, Balisage has followed several projects as they have developed.
In 2026, I
hope to hear both about what has happened recently and where the project teams
hope the
work will go in the future.

XML and declarative/generic markup up have been both wildly successful and
disappointingly
ignored. Let's talk about that, too. Let's talk about what we can do, what
should we do, to
promote the core value that underlies the XML stack and the use of generic
markup? What *is*
the value of generic markup?

After Balisage 2026 we will freeze the proceedings and ensure their long-term
availability through
Portico.

A personal note:
I have been chairing Balisage and its predecessor conferences for 30 years. It
has been
a lot of work and a lot of fun. I am proud of the communication we have
fostered and the
proceedings that provide a record of the conference content. The people I have
met, the
careers I have watched grow, and the technology I watched mature have been a
joy.

I will continue to participate in the markup community and to support other
markup-related
events.

Questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome. Please write to me at
btusdin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:btusdin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> or
info@xxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:info@xxxxxxxxxxxx>.
