Do you use XSLT 2.0 or 1.0? If you use 2.0 then make sure you use the right spelling "exists" (and not "exits" as your error message shows). If you use 1.0 then "exists" is not support, you could use "boolean" instead e.g. boolean(listElement[categOrSubOrOther = 'Categ']/following-sibling::listElement[categOrSubOrOther = 'Sub'])
