What is the best practice to incorporate EMF or EMF+ vector graphics in fop?

Tried to apply freehep in order to convert EMF to SVG prior to a xslt run, however, as I got error messages that I do not understand this seems to be not an easy way. Is there an alternative?

Any hint welcome.
