The output is probably perfectly correct UTF-8, and you are looking at it
using a viewer that doesn't know how to display UTF-8.
Find yourself something that displays UTF-8, or force the output to use
numeric character entities by specifying <xsl:output encoding="iso646"/> or
similar.
