Many thanks to Ken - the solution is really quite straight forward as expected!

Before kindly asking Dave Pawson to add it to the FAQ I have one concern.

This solution relies on XSLT 2.0 and will work in Saxon only, right?
At least it does not work in any of my browsers: IE, FF, and Opera.
