If you mean the inital mode that can be set when starting the
transform (the -im switch) then it's not possible to detect that
within the stylesheet.

You could pass it is as a parameter and use
that


I guess this could be a solution for me. I mentioned the "param=value"
option of saxon8 before but i can't figure out how to use this. Any
hints?
