Totally non-XSL solution: If you control (or can talk to the person who
controls) the Excel file, put empty strings in all the intervening cells.
If this is the typical arrangement where a group of people modify some
base file to create new files, changing the template (the base Excel file)
will solve your problem.
Just a thought.
