Thanks all.
My vast confusion came from an editor that kept telling me that valid XSL was invalid and from trying to use generated XSL as a model for my XSL. Needless to say, I got some key factors wrong. I appreciate everyone's help and am happy to report that I can now make the XSL perform the translation. Now I just need to get the HTML working -- another challenge. Thanks!!!!
