You'll want to test the name() of the current node, as in:
<xsl:choose>
  <xsl:when test="name()='view:textfield'">
    ...
  </xsl:when>
  <xsl:when test="name()='view:dropdown'">
    ...
  </xsl:when>
  <xsl:otherwise>
    ...
  </xsl:otherwise>
</xsl:choose>
