normalize-space, in common with other functions expecting a string
will, if passed a node set discard every node except the first and
take the string value of the first node.
So the above test only tests the first attribute (which attribute is
first is implementation defined).
Without the normalize-space() it does an existential test whether any of
the attributes of the current node are equal to any of the ones in %kcref.
