I don't think so, 1 belongs to number type, not to node-set, so the param will contain just 1 as number.

but

<xsl:param name="abs" select="'1'"/>

And this one will contain 1 as string.

or

<xsl:param name="abs">1</xsl:param>

And this one as RTF with the only text node that in turn contain 1 as string value.
