oops - fyi - the portion of the stylesheet in my previous post reading:
<xsl:template match="firstName">
<td class="sans">
<xsl:if test="">
</xsl:if>
<xsl:value-of select="normalize-space()" /></td>
</xsl:template>
should read:
<xsl:template match="firstName">
<td class="sans"><xsl:value-of select="normalize-space()" /></td>
</xsl:template>
