It will do that is where you told it to put it when you wrote
// Stick it over in our storage XML Object - objXMLset
   objXMLset.documentElement.insertBefore(cloneTree,
objXMLset.documentElement.firstChild);
You really want to do something more like
// First search for the level 3 node then
   cloneTree = l3node.appendChild(cloneTree);
