Don't know is this is msxml3, but have you tried the following?
<for-each select="book">
<xsl:sort
select="@priceMin"
order="ascending"
data-type="number"
/>
</for-each>
Sorry, Microsoft has a different way of sort implementation
I test it
<xsl:for-each select="book" order-by="-number(@priceMin)">
