Only by using the 'select' statement in the variable definition. It is
not unusual for this to be inadequate but making RTF's usable in the
same ways as node-sets is already on the XSL todo list, so it'll
probably get better, one day.
Of course, you can do a lot with clever, and sometimes precipitously
obfuscated, select statements. It's just a matter of internalizing the
XPath spec.
