I'd like to thank Ben Robb for his reply to my inquiry about using macros
in XSL.
I got the macro construct from the XSL Working Draft version 1.0 (16 Dec
1998)
which appears to be ancient history as far as XSL is concerned!

I have now downloaded the latest specs.
