There is SP, it is an SGML parser which also groks XML. Then, there
is Jade, a DSSSL processor, and xslj which can convert an XSL
stylesheet to a DSSSL specification which Jade can read.
I have successfully used these programs to render XML as HTML with
HTML flow objects (or whatever the right terminology is).
