I think it would make sense for the XML community to go back one step and attempt to analyze what had gone wrong rather than dogmatically insist on XML being just perfect.

Historically this group has believed claimed that XML is perfect, but over the years I think it has come to a consensus that all attempts to improve it are likely to do more harm than good, because the benefits of XML come from very strict interoperability.
