I think of XML Schema as an iron maiden, a brutal attempt to contort information to fit grotesquely limited patterns of thought and computing. Definitely not an instrument of my thoughts. We then specify the language via an XML Schema. The XML Schema is an instrument of our thought. XML instances that conform to the XML Schema is a mode of communicating in that language.
