May be, but it's legacy. Many older operating systems supported only 3
characters as a filename extension. Although this limitation is no
longer true I personally don't see any advantage in using 3 extensions
at the same time. I know that .xsl is a text file in XML format
containing XSLT transformation. There are not that many file types in use.
