I am afraid that just big companies can
specify notations which will become successful because they will
also provide engines to process them and because, then, people
will be eager to announce that they are experts for them...
Anyway, I consider that the adaptative output specified for XSLT
and XQuery Serialization 3.1
( https://www.w3.org/TR/xslt-xquery-serialization-31/#adaptive-output)
can easily be extended to become a great notation, usable for both
input and output by an XQuery engine, for mixing maps, arrays,
sequences, atomic values and XML trees.

I think this new notation will further complicate
the world of data formats. The current technology landscape
involving XML, JSON and HTML & associated integration
technologies seems sufficient to me to provide solutions to
existing use cases in this field.
