Interest post.  Looks horrible tho.  Glad XML got out of this business.  I like good old lexical spec and grammar spec then one of the many tools like lex and Yacc or JavaCC to generate your syntax.
You could play some tricks like parse to a DOM then have your own serializer or do what XSLT/XQuery did - embed a language within XMl

No. SGML does this, but not XML.
