Considering the alternatives: (a) using JSON + JSONiq, (b) using an XML representation of JSON data - one should keep in mind that JSONiq contains nothing even remotely emulating XPath. I wonder if nobody cares, or if nobody notices. At any rate, after the invention of XPath (1999 + 2007), treating tree-structured data as if there were no such concept as navigation along axes seems to me regression.
