Ahhhh that reminds me. I see your Peopleware and raise you a Systemantics from the 70's (another gem picked up on the book swap site). There is a pdf of the whole book somewhere online but am not sure whether it is a bootleg so DYORHighlights for me. Axiom 2 which is fleshed out in Axiom 3 which is a more sophisticated expression of what I used to know as Problem Displacement. Solving a problem e.g - testing a complex software system - by building a complex software system that requires testing, maintenance (an automated software testing project). Axioms 7 - 9, 15 - 16, 18-20, 29 Cippolla's hilarious Basic Laws of Human Stupidity to which is attached the following rider "Unfortunately, Cipolla fails to consider how the world would function without 'stupid people'. For without the problems they create, there would be nothing for the 'non-stupid' people to do. Every action requires an equal and opposite reaction!" The Hazards of System Building (which we are particularly prone to IT)
