A grove is an abstract data model representing certain parts of a document, the "semantic" parts for whatever the appropriate definition of "semantic" is.  Groves are developed from property sets (which represent *all* the information in a document) using a grove plan.  The XML Infoset is a specific grove, but it's not described by a generic grove plan.
