Research is sometimes surprising (or I didn't explain well, or I misunderstood - it was described to me in I think 1982 and I've never tracked down the original study). However, note the the body's circulation system does in fact send blood to warmer parts of skin - if your feet are hot they will go "puffy" and if you are caucasian you'll see they are pink or even reddish. If they are cool (not frozen, jut cool) they will be paler. It's been speculated that this feature (not only for the feet of course) reduces energy needs.
