I use "vocabulary" to mean the set of defined names and their semantics.

I avoid "XML Application" because it's confusing (an "application" is a
program that runs, for most people today, not an abstract markup
language).

Markup Language can also be used, but it's more jargonesque and I prefer
to avoid being over-precise when precision isn't needed.
