Rich,

I understood you perfectly.  Maybe there should be a content-type for a W3C XML Schema document?

The W3C web server serves it as xml, and through sleight of hand (xml-stylesheet), as html too.  The normal config for a web server
that wanted to serve two or more formats for a resource would be to negotiate for the format and serve it as application/xml *and* text/html.

At least according my understanding of Representational State Transfer http://www.ics.uci.edu/~fielding/pubs/dissertation/rest_arch_style.htm#sec_5_2

Exactly what I said when I answered Roger. There is no content-type for a W3C XML Schema document.  So a properly configured web server can do nothing but say "it's XML."

Sorry if I was too terse or not clear.
