These aren't the result of standards commitee work, just programming by a few brave souls whose work has been adopted widely. I'm talking about script.ac.ulo.us, prototype, jquery, etc. I don't think there is completely rigorous consistency across-browser, but they do take care of abstracting away many of the most glaring differences. And I think it's interesting that the flavor of this work is very much in line with that advocated on this group: open-source, bottom-up, DIY stuff, not regulated in any way by browser manufacturers. -Mike
