Heyo.

So, we didn't do a great job of describing this or providing 
information the first time around.  Please accept our apologies for 
that.

gXML is an API to represent the XQuery Data Model in Java, and 
enabling/enabled technologies.  Because of the pervasive presence of 
the Document Object Model in Java XML APIs, the core technology is 
designed to integrate with, rather than supplant, existing tree 
models.  Some exciting possibilities for development of new 
technologies are also opened by establishment of a core based on the 
XDM.

Yesterday, we began the discussion on the Apache incubator mailing list 
(if you follow the list, you'll have seen that already).  We continue 
to seek Mentors and a Champion for that proposal.

I hope that this is a somewhat more informative and useful set of 
pointers.  If not, feel free to contact me with criticisms or advice.

I'll be doing a presentation on the topic at Balisage as well (Tuesday 
morning, so if you're going to be there, do please come heckle ... :-).

We think this is potentially game-changing for handling XML in Java; if 
you're doing anything with Java in XML, please take a look.  Thanks.
