Which would mean a very large reversal of the Beltway procurement policies
which lean heavily toward SOA and .Net for Homeland Security Systems.  Note
that these are already cited in the existing RFPs, on the street, and bid so
turning that train to suit the fashions of the technologists may be less
certain than you think.   IOW, the infamous silent majority may be a little
less enamored of the shrill RESTafarians than the blog logs would indicate.

As for ODF, the world is waiting to see what Vista brings to the party.
That is the number one concern of the IT staffs who control the budgets and
distributions in the major business units.

As I said on Mike's blog, I expect this to be the year of divergence and
increasingly smaller numbers at the once popular conferences as the term
'revenue recognition' denotes the most urgent meme.  Economic forces are
*surging* at the moment.

.. while enthusiasm continues to decline for any new WS-*
specs.  REST will keep growing in popularity (with or without the
"REST" name), but people will become annoyed with the increasingly
shrill complaints from RESTafarians that they're using POST where they
should use PUT and DELETE.  We might continue to see incremental
improvements in the ability to use MS Office applications with ODF,
hopefully through official MS tools rather than third-party plugins.
