Hi,

First off, is the latest spec for XUpdate at:

http://xmldb-org.sourceforge.net/xupdate/xupdate-wd.html
(Working Draft - 2000-09-14)
?

My real question is: Can you have a variable like so:

<xupdate:variable name="new-node">
   <xupdate:element name="mynode">
     <xupdate:attribute name="id">abc</xupdate:attribute>
   </xupdate:element>
<xupdate:variable>

or even:

<xupdate:variable name="new-node">
   <mynode id="abc"/>
<xupdate:variable>
