libxml2 has a HTMLparser module that might interest you if you're looking
to parse tag soup HTML files from C (or from Python via C :)

(We use the libxml2 HTML parser in Prince 5.1 in order to pass the Acid2
test from the Web Standards Project, which is HTML rather than XHTML).
