That is certainly a good first step.   Given the system, 
that information may or may not exist, may be contradictory, 
and has to be factored into other intelligence (eg, conversion 
costs and opportunities).  

What would you be looking for?

Is there some reason you left out interviewing the company elders and 
poring over the ancient palimpsests in the archives to learn _why_ what 
was done was done?

Gather intelligence, then decide the strategy.
