As for viewpoints, that is whole discussion about the 
notion of migrating away from a 2D interface to a 
real-time 3D interface where the viewpoint object 
organizes the interface, concepts, and so on.  If 
you like, we can split off a thread on that.  This 
is something I've been thinking about since the 
late eighties when I realized that it was the 
unifying concept for non-linear systems, user 
interfaces, and conceptual vector models.  I 
presented a formula for that at an SGML conference 
and documented it in a paper and an Appendix to 
a US Navy IETM paper.  Since then, with experience 
in VRML and now X3D, it is clear to me that it 
is the next generation and that retro designs 
like XAML and XUL (which the US Navy MID is the 
prototype for) are already behind the curve. 

As typical, the bigCos and the kids are looking 
in the wrong place.  Innovation really is in the 
tall grass waiting.  The gamesters already know 
this.
